GOP Voters in Early States Embrace a Trump Presidential Bid

WASHINGTON -- Out with Sarah. In with The Donald. President Barack Obama has launched his re-election bid in a low-key manner, but the Republican Party's search for a challenger seems stranger by the day. GOP celebrities like Sarah Palin aren't getting much buzz. Mainstream candidates like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty aren't getting much traction. It's people once considered highly unlikely to compete seriously for the party's nomination who are creating big stirs in early voting states, a reflection of an unformed and uncertain GOP presidential field. Republican activists in Iowa, New ...

Dog Rescued in NH After Living on Streets for Entire Year

It almost sounds like a story out of a children's book. A Nashua, N.H., dog reported missing a year ago had been living on the banks of the Merrimac River with a group of feral cats. The dog, Gypsy Girl, was finally rescued Friday. Courtesy Holly Mokrzecki Holly Mokrzecki, founder of Granite State Dog Recovery, said Gypsy Girl was "was giving us kisses and wagging her tail" right after being rescued. Gypsy is a 3-year-old black Labrador mix originally from Alabama. She was adopted by a New Hampshire family in March 2010. Shortly after, Gypsy slipped her collar and ran away. "Her ...

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- A fierce winter storm was blanketing northern New England and upstate New York with up to 30 inches of snow Monday, while western Connecticut was deluged with so much rain that parts of homes and cars floated down a swollen river. Opinion: Why Decriminalize Child Prostitution?

Believe it or not, the average age for a girl entering prostitution is 13 years old, and the average age is declining as buyers want younger and younger children. Nobody knows exactly how many kids end up being sold for sexual services, but the number is in the multiple thousands and the problem grows bigger and expands to more cities and towns every year. But even one child victim is one too many. Decent people are appalled and want to stop this outrage. However, one "good sounding" solution that many states are considering will surely produce unintended negative consequences that will make ...

Presidential Primary Calendar in Peril as Florida Insists on Early 2012 Date

A top Florida Republican says his state will likely hold to a Jan. 31 date for its presidential primary next year, upsetting the campaign calendar that traditionally has Iowa and New Hampshire leading off the season. "I think we belong at the beginning of the national conversation about who the next president is," Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon told CNN on Thursday. ". . . I am aware of the risks, and people say it should be moved later, but I definitely favor keeping it early rather than moving it back like the parties are saying." If Florida sticks to its plan -- despite protests from ...
