"It's kind of weird because it's like people really don't remember last year," Northern Iowa power forward/enforcer/professional baseball pitcher Lucas O'Rear told FanHouse. "When we were in Las Vegas (for iBN Las Vegas Championship) people were saying we had to be excited to play a team like Indiana. We were like, 'We've been here before. It was just last year when we made our run.' It's like people have kind of forgotten about it. "But I guess it was last year's team." For the ...
ST. LOUIS -- There's no time to moan and groan. Michigan State advanced to the Sweet 16 despite having more than its fair share of injuries. In addition to Kalin Lucas' season-ending left Achilles injury, three other key players have been slowed by hurts heading into the Spartans' Midwest Regional match-up against Northern Iowa here Friday. The roll call, minus the bandage: * Guard Chris Allen played just four minutes in last weekend's second-round game against Maryland with a bruised arch. * Delvon Roe is playing with a torn meniscus in his right knee that will likely require surgery after ...
Dramatics aside, Northern Iowa's success starts with defense. The teaching begins on the first day of practice and it doesn't stop. Ever. Just ask Ali Farokhmanesh, the Panthers' shooting hero in their first two NCAA tournament victories over UNLV and Kansas. The senior hears head coach Ben Jacobson's defensive-minded philosophy in his sleep. "We did that from day one in practice. When you're a ...
Holiday shopping just got more more difficult for Iowa college students this year. Thanks to state funding cutbacks, many students will be spending a little less on gifts and a little more on tuition. Iowa Gov. Chet Culver approved a $522 million budget cut on Oct. 28, erasing 10 percent of funds from each of Iowa's 28 state departments. Well over half the cuts -- $332 million -- came out of educational funding, which covers everything from grade schools to universities. Though the reductions affect students at both private and state colleges, state-funded schools are suffering more ...
USC 80, (12) Arizona 73. A road conference loss to a quality opponent is not the end of the world. If course, two losses in a row and three of the last four, however ... that might be something to worry about. So they're either in real trouble with that road game at UCLA looming, or it's a chance to get their balls back. You can look at it either way you'd like. This game was decided with an early second-half 15-3 USC run, triggered by Nick Young. He finished with 80 and 8 on the night. (13) Nevada 85, Fresno State 75. Nick Fazekas returns to freak us, once again. There was no readjustment ...
