Introducing 'bacōn,' the Cologne for Men Who Want to Smell Like Fried Pork

It's a sign of the Aporklypse. A Chicago man has introduced a wearable, bacon-scented fragrance called "bacōn" that captures the essence of greasy Sunday-morning breakfasts. One-ounce bottles of bacōn, pronounced "bay-cone," sell for $36 and can be ordered at the product's website, fargginay.com. The unisex line comes in Gold and Classic, offering bold and subtle bacon scents, respectively. Fargginay Bacōn, the scent for discerning pork lovers, was introduced last week by a Chicago entrepreneur. One-ounce bottles sell for $36. The creator of the scent, John ...

Air France Plane Crash Parts Found in Atlantic

PARIS - Underwater search teams have located pieces of an Air France plane that crashed in the Atlantic in 2009, French investigators said Sunday, offering a surprising new glimmer of hope in the protracted hunt for clues to what happened. Previous extensive and expensive search efforts proved futile in attempts to shed light on the cause of the crash. All 228 people aboard Flight 447, en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, were killed when the plane slammed into the ocean during an intense high-altitude thunderstorm. Eiffel Tower Evacuated Over Suspicious Package

PARIS -- A bomb threat and the discovery of a suspicious package spurred French authorities to briefly evacuate nearly 4,000 tourists from the Eiffel Tower on Wednesday, tower officials and police said. No explosives were found, and the site in the French capital was reopened to visitors more than two hours after the original warning, said a Paris police official. Police officers cordoned off the sandy plaza beneath the tower and soldiers in camouflage gear patrolled the site after the evacuation. Onlooking crowds were kept at bay by red-and-white police tape which surrounded the Paris ...

France: Qatar to Join Libya Operation Within Hours

PARIS -- France said today that Qatar will join the international operation against the forces of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi within hours. French Defense Ministry spokesman Laurent Teisseire said Qatar warplanes will join the operation alongside French jets, as a "historic partner" of France in the Arab world. Speaking to reporters in Paris, he said the Qatari contribution will come "in the hours to come." He gave no other details. France has sent about 15 planes to eastern Libya today, French military spokesman Thierry Burkhard said. He said no civilian casualties have been reported by ...

World Intervenes in Libya, With Unusual Speed

PARIS -- In diplomatic terms, international military action against Libya's leader went from the brainstorming stage to the shooting-at-tanks stage with stunning speed. Saturday's launch of military strikes by French, British and U.S. forces with Arab backing and U.N. mandate was not universally endorsed. And it's unclear whether it will be fast enough to do what its proponents want, to shore up rebel forces and oust Libya's leader Moammar Gadhafi. But the cascade of quick, weighty decisions getting there was unusual - just one of the unusual things about this dramatic operation. It ...

Obama's Juggle: Libya War and Latin America

BRASILIA, Brazil -- As American missiles struck Libya, President Barack Obama doggedly promoted his Latin American agenda Saturday, praising Brazil as a soaring economic force and brimming market for trade. Back home, his message was all but lost in the roar over the Libyan conflict. "The United States doesn't simply recognize Brazil's rise; we support it enthusiastically," Obama said from this capital city as he launched a five-day outreach mission that will also take him to Chile and El Salvador. He began in Brazil as a sign of solidary between the two largest democracies and economies in ...

French Fighter Jets Open Fire in Libya as Western Military Intervention Begins

NICE, France -- Followed by the U.S and Britain, France kicked off an international military strike on Libya today that left Col. Moammar Gadhafi's air and missile defense systems "severely disabled," military officials said. The operation was launched eight years to the day after the U.S. announced the invasion of Iraq. French Mirage warplanes took the lead when they left a military base in Saint-Dizier in the east of France Saturday afternoon, destroying four pro-Gadhafi tanks outside Tripoli. The U.S. and Britain quickly joined the Allied air strike to prevent Gadhafi forces from further ...

US Eyes Libyan Opposition; Allies Call for Action

PARIS -- Under pressure from allies and growing calls for military intervention in Libya, the Obama administration on Monday held its first high-level talks with the Libyan opposition and introduced a liaison to deal full time with their ranks. But it remained undecided about exactly how much support to lend a group it still knows little about while turmoil and uncertainty increase across the Arab world. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton held a late-night, 45-minute meeting with a senior Libyan opposition figure after discussing the widening crisis with French President Nicolas ...

$25 Million in Stolen Harry Winston Gems Found in Paris Sewer

Police in France have recovered $25 million worth of jewelry in a Paris rain sewer, two years after they were stolen from a Harry Winston store, one of the most brazen heists in recent memory. The gems were dug up underneath a house in Seine-Saint-Denis, just outside Paris, French police told Europe-1 radio in a statement. The thieves had stashed the jewelry, which included three pairs of earrings and 19 rings -- one of them valued at $8.3 million -- in a plastic container cased in cement and wedged into a rain sewer. Francois Mori, AP Stolen jewelry worth $25 million has been ...
