Haley Barbour has pardoned Gladys and Jamie Scott, black women whose case has been a cause celebre among civil rights activists. But to be released, Gladys, 36, must donate a kidney to her 38-year-old sister, Jamie, who requires dialysis and needs a transplant. Mark David Chapman to Make 6th Parole Board Appearance

He will stand before a three-member panel from the New York State Division of Parole next week. After nearly 30 years in the New York state prison system, the hearing will mark the sixth time that Chapman has appeared before a parole board since first becoming eligible in October 2000. Lindsay Lohan Ordered to Jail by Judge Marsha Revel
By David Knowles - AOL News(July 6) -- Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel ruled today that actress Lindsay Lohan must serve jail time for violating her probation stemming from a 2007 drunken driving arrest. Revel sentenced Lohan to 90 days in jail. Lohan sobbed in court as the judge announced her sentence. Revel ordered Lohan to surrender on July 20 and insisted that she continue to wear the SCRAM alcohol monitoring device until that time. U.S. Prison Population in Decline for First Time in Decades
By David Sessions - Politics DailyThanks to a falling crime rate and the tightening of law enforcement budgets, the number of people in U.S. prisons could decline in 2009 for the first time in almost four decades, the Associated Press reports. The American crime rate has risen steadily every year since 1972, but the 0.8 percent increase in inmate population in 2009 is the smallest annual increase of the decade. During the 1990s, inmate population grew by 6.5 percent each year.
