Sodexo Joins Meatless Monday Bandwagon

Veggies, it's what for dinner, on Mondays. International food services provider Sodexo announced that it is signing onto the Meatless Monday health campaign, which promotes social and environmental change through vegetarianism, one day a week. Sodexo feeds over 10 million people daily, so it's no surprise that Meatless Monday program director Chris Elam calls the development a "big deal." "Sodexo is truly leading the way by lending their large-scale support to the movement," read a statement posted on the Meatless Monday website. "Not only will their Meatless Monday meals reach hundreds of ...

Elton John, David Furnish Welcome Baby Boy: 5 Other Old Celebrity Dads

You can now add "father" to Sir Elton John's jam-packed resume. He and his partner, David Furnish, became the parents of a 7-pound, 15-ounce baby boy named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish, born to an anonymous surrogate. Furnish is older than most new dads at 48, but at 62, John is entering fatherhood at an age when others are approaching grandfatherhood. By the time their son hits 18, John will be 80 years old. But in the world of celebrity, of course, age is just a number. Here are some other male celebrities still pumping out progeny well into their later years. Clint Eastwood The ...

Rolling Stone Releases Lennon's Final Interview

NEW YORK (Dec. 8) -- Three days before he was gunned down, John Lennon complained about his critics - saying they were just interested in "dead heroes" - and talked optimistically about his family and future, musing that he had "plenty of time" to accomplish some of his life goals. Washington's Oscars: Kennedy Center Honors for Five Cultural Icons

They've been called Washington's answer to the Oscars. And for the 33rd straight year, the Kennedy Center Honors brought a jolt of glitz and glam to the capital city as five of the nation's top performing artists received rainbow ribbons and effusive praise for their life's work this weekend at the State Department, the White House and, of course, the Kennedy Center. Seated front row, first balcony with the Obamas and the Bidens on Sunday night, the latest quintet of American idols alternately looked thrilled and humbled as their peers paid effusive tribute and performed some of their ...

Ignore Your Inner Cynic and Vote on Tuesday

"Tribute to Her," uploaded to the Internet on Nov. 7, 2008, is a slideshow of Election Day photographs. YouTube member SailorBrownie described her post as a "dedication to all those Black Americans who went out on Tuesday and voted. We made history." While it's not altogether clear who is the "Her" in the title of the video, it might as well be the woman collapsed on the floor in tears. A girl nearby touches her cheek with a little confusion and a lot tenderness for the woman who is, most likely, her mother. The pictures are set to the Beatles song, "Blackbird" -- a good choice, considering ...

JERUSALEM (Aug. 24) -- Israel is set to become the first country in the world to impose a blanket ban on the import of animal fur -- a move animal rights activists hope will have a domino effect around the world. On Sept. 2, the Knesset is due to debate the second and third readings of the groundbreaking bill introduced by Ronit Tirosh, a legislator from the opposition Kadima Party, to outlaw the production, processing, import, export and sale of fur from all animal species not already part of the meat industry. There was some opposition from religious groups representing ultra-orthodox ...
