Half of Americans Don't Know Squat About the Egyptian Crisis, Poll Finds

News flash: There's something happening in Egypt. Of course, being Surge Desk readers, you already knew that, but according to a new Pew Research Center poll, roughly one in two Americans reports hearing "little or nothing" about Egypt's ongoing anti-government protests. The survey of 1,385 adults also showed that Americans lack "a clear point of view" on the Egyptian demonstrations. Of those who did express an opinion on the crisis, a majority of Democrats (69 percent) and independents (57 percent) responded that the White House is handling the Egypt issue well, while fewer Republicans (43 ...

Poll Shows Strong Public Support for Tax Cut Deal

(Dec. 13) -- Conservatives, liberals and political independents are markedly in sync when it comes to the deal President Barack Obama forged with Republicans on extension of the Bush-era tax cuts and unemployment benefits. A poll released today by the Pew Research Center indicates a strong bipartisan majority backs the deal, including 62 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of Democrats and 60 percent of independents. Future Poll: World War III, Cancer Cure Are on the Way

(June 22) -- On the plus side, by the year 2050 there will be a cure for cancer, bionic limbs will perform better than mere flesh-and-bone arms and legs and cloning will be used to bring back extinct animals. Oh, and computers will be able to converse among themselves like human beings. On the downside, those same computers might be responsible for the expected third world war, won't be able to thwart a terrorist nuclear attack on the U.S. and will utterly fail to stop the major energy crisis that will play havoc with the world. These are among the predictions made for the next 40 years by ...

Republican Party Identification Nears the Mendoza Line

Things are bad for the Republican Party. How bad?The Mendoza Line, the low-water mark for a major league baseball player's batting average, is .198. Expressed as a percentage, that translates to 19.8%. In a recent Pew study, the portion of voters who identified themselves as Republicans was 22%. That's not a lot of daylight between the GOP and the visitor's clubhouse in Spokane. How bad are things for the Republican Party? The Whig Party is taking shots at them. That's just embarrassing, like being taunted by Sanjaya Malakar at the American Idol finale. ...

Limbaugh's Audience Better Informed Than Those Of Most Media Outlets

A poll from the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press casts more doubt on the wisdom of the Democrats' coordinated strategy to tie elected Republicans to radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. When it comes to American political knowledge, Limbuagh's audience is better informed than those of most mainstream media news outlets. The poll tested the audiences of a host of news magazines, radio and television shows, and newspapers on three basic political questions: the majority party in the House of Representatives; the name of the Secretary of State; and the identity of the Prime ...
