The moment -- captured by a photographer from leading Japanese newspaper Yomiuri and published by newspapers and websites worldwide -- evoked a rare glimmer of hope amid so much destruction and death from the March 11 disasters that killed an estimated 26,000 people. Yomiuri Shimbun / AP In March, a Japan Self-Defense Force ...

You can find almost anything on the shelves at Walmart -- sometimes even obscene photographs of a 44-year-old man in drag. Police in Fremont, Ohio, say Rodney Kunkel stocked the shelves at Walmart with graphic photographs showing himself in black nylons, heels and pink lingerie with his genitals exposed. Kunkel allegedly placed the photos on shelves in the cosmetic department and on cars in the store's parking lot on Feb. 28, The News-Messenger reports. ...
The image is already infamous for the horrendous event that took place moments after a photographer captured it. It shows CBS News correspondent Lara Logan with a jostling crowd of Egyptian men in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Friday night. CBS said it was taken just before she was attacked and sexually assaulted amid the uproar and jubilation that followed President Hosni Mubarak's decision to resign. The faces of the people behind her seem to reflect a range of emotions, from anger and anxiety to joy and celebration. One smiling man in a hooded sweatshirt appears to be holding up a "V" sign for ...
(Oct. 23) -- Plenty of young artists put work before sleep -- none more than Tyler Shields. In an attempt to break the world record for going the most nights without sleep, the 28-year-old Los Angeles photographer claims he's stayed awake for the past 38 days and won't allow himself a wink of shut-eye until he's reached 40 days. It's such a dangerous stunt that Guinness World Records wants no part in it. Shields has therefore enlisted friends to act as monitors and vouch for him when disbelievers inevitably dismiss him as a fool and a liar. Nevertheless, by midnight Sunday, he'll end this ...
(Oct. 21) -- Temperatures may be dropping in the U.S., but new NASA photos show that spring has sprung elsewhere in the solar system. The images of Titan, one of Saturn's moons, show a band of brightly colored clouds around the center of the moon. That suggests the seasons are changing on the icy moon, with spring arriving in the northern hemisphere. SSI / JPL / NASA NASA's Cassini spacecraft obtained this raw image of Saturn's moon Titan on Monday. Bright clouds streak the moon's midsection, likely an indication of changing seasons and the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere. ...
(Sept. 4) -- New images of a colossal sunspot show the chaos and energy on the surface of the sun. The New Solar Telescope in Big Bear Lake, Calif., snapped the closest image ever taken of the sunspot, which is larger than the Earth. Resembling a giant sunflower, it makes for a pretty picture, but the black fibers are violent jets of energy being thrown from the surface of the star. "What's interesting is that when we look at the sunspot, it appears pretty benign," New Jersey Institute of Technology professor Philip R. Goode told Fox News. But "the fibers are actually jets of energy being ...
(Aug. 26) -- The photograph shows the Myers family of Bloomfield, N.J. -- husband, wife and two young children -- dressed up for a friend's wedding and posing in front of the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison. But wait -- who's that guy in the background and what is he doing? Police say he's the thief who made off with the family's bag while they were smiling for the camera that husband John Myers had set for an automatic exposure. After the picture was taken Saturday, the family started to leave for the wedding reception but then realized their bag was gone, Myers told The Wisconsin State ...
(July 22) --- As a plus-size fashion model and former eating disorder sufferer, Crystal Renn said she was stunned when a photographer for a charity fashion shoot gave her a digital slim-down that prompted a flurry of questions about her body image. The photos in question, shot by photographer Nicholas Routzen, show a suddenly svelte Renn in a tank top benefiting Fashion for Passion, a charity that funds arts education for children. "When I first saw the pictures, I have to say I was absolutely shocked. I think I sat in silence for a good five minutes," Renn said today on NBC's "Today" show. ...
Has it always been this way? For some reason, the career advancement of a serious, intellectual woman -- Elena Kagan, just for instance -- can be jeopardized over mere rumors about a very private life she prefers for whatever reason to keep private. Yet for gals like Michelle McGee or Rachel Uchitel, dicey sexual behavior is a sure-fire career enhancer. Yes, broadcast a sex tape or publish naughty stripper photos and you're on your way; thus are gals who've done nothing more than be blessed with tight abdominals and a proclivity for shaking what God (or a surgeon) gave 'em celebrated with ...
