Believe it or not, a few lucky Lego lovers are able to make a living snapping together bricks in various shapes and sizes at one of the four Legoland amusement parks around the world. Artists like Gary McIntire and Ryan Ziegelbauer, for instance, are paid to click bricks at Legoland California in Carlsbad, Calif. (March 24) -- In what may prove a harbinger of high-seas dramas to come, a pirate attacking a ship off the Somali coast was reportedly killed by a private security guard. The European Union's Naval Force announced Tuesday that a cargo ship off the coast of Somalia successfully warded off a pirate attack. After a Spanish naval ship intercepted the attacking pirate boats, the EU added that one of the pirates had been killed before the Spanish ship arrived, presumably by the private security guards on board the attacked ship. The attack involved three boats, the EU's naval force reported: a ...
LONDON (Nov. 19) -- Claims this week that the Spanish government paid Somali pirates a $3.3 million ransom to free a Spanish fishing trawler and its crew are fueling concerns that piracy is paying off better than ever -- and that shipping costs are rising as a result. Somali pirates told The Associated Press they received that princely sum for the release of the Alakrana and its crew, which they seized in early October. Just 18 months ago, the Spanish government reportedly paid substantially less -- a reported $1.2 million -- for the release of a similar-sized fishing trawler. According to ...
Youtube via BlackFive. What happens to the fourth pirate now? I don't know but the Convention on the High Seas spells out the current law. The courts of the State which carried out the seizure may decide upon the penalties to be imposed, and may also determine the action to be taken with regard to the ships, aircraft or property, subject to ...
Shiver me timbers, we've entered the crazy times. Pirates are totally making a comeback. They're more in fashion this fall than cashmere sweaters and plain-front trousers. It's been 200 years since they've been a force at sea, but lately no one is safe, from super tankers to fishing boats. The map on the right is from the International Chamber of Commerce's Crime Service web page and it's constantly streaming in real time to bring you the latest pirate information. No joke, there's a website dedicated to tracking pirate attacks around the globe. And courtesy of Google's nifty little pointers ...
Zen is the only way I can describe the architect of a passing attack that has averaged 5,094 yards per season over the last four years. So what's the secret behind his offensive genius and swashbuckling ways? Acupuncture. In the last few years, the Texas Tech head coach also has cut out smokeless tobacco and, of more comfort perhaps, mostly freed himself from asthma's grip..."Went for asthma. I felt like it helped asthma," Leach said. "To stop dipping, I thought it worked great. I mean literally, right then, right there. You go (for treatments) three or four days straight and you're done." ...
