Air France Plane Crash Parts Found in Atlantic

PARIS - Underwater search teams have located pieces of an Air France plane that crashed in the Atlantic in 2009, French investigators said Sunday, offering a surprising new glimmer of hope in the protracted hunt for clues to what happened. Previous extensive and expensive search efforts proved futile in attempts to shed light on the cause of the crash. All 228 people aboard Flight 447, en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, were killed when the plane slammed into the ocean during an intense high-altitude thunderstorm. TSA Airport Screening: Come Die With Me

TSA Airport Screening: Come Die With Me

You are witnessing the death of an industry. What the eco-freaks could never do -- drum up significant support for mass transit -- the TSA has done in just one decade. Hard to believe there was a time when flying was glamorous, but glamorous, exciting and sexy it was from the 1940s through the 1960s. Stewardesses wore cute little suits, and passengers dressed up too. Airline meals weren't great, but they sure beat the tiny bags of pretzels we get now. Back in the day, the word airplane conjured up images of passengers disembarking in Honolulu, welcomed by young women holding leis. An ...

Air Wreck Expert Searches for Plane Truth

(Oct. 13) -- Pat Macha's next mission will take him to California's Mojave Desert on a quest to help a man honor the dead. "He promised his dad he'd visit this grave, so we're taking him out there in mid-October," Macha recently explained to AOL News. "The jet bomber crashed in 1955. The crew chief was going to ride in the fourth seat, but he got bumped by a Catholic priest. The plane hit a mountain, and everyone was killed. The nephew of the pilot told his dad he'd visit where his dad's brother died, and so we're doing it. The crew chief, the one who got bumped, is still alive. He'll be ...

Probe Finds Chinese Pilots Faking Flight Histories

TAIPEI, Taiwan (Sept. 8) -- A government probe has found that at least 170 Chinese pilots have falsified their flight histories, renewing concerns over China's air safety in the wake of an Aug. 24 crash that killed 42. That crash of a Henan Airlines flight, during a landing at a foggy airport in northeastern China, was the country's first major air accident in six years. AP A firefighter searches for victims near a burning Chinese passenger jet after it crashed in northeast China's Heilongjiang province Aug. 25. The Henan Airlines jet crashed while trying to land at night on a fog-shrouded ...

Perils of the Hudson: A River Runs Through Us

Perils of the Hudson: A River Runs Through Us

As a I look out my living room windows in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan, all I see is a beautiful, peaceful patch of the Hudson River, framed by the green of the Palisades, the line of cliffs on the New Jersey side. It's what sold me on the apartment almost 10 years ago when I bought it (and it was affordable), and it is what I wake up to most days. I wanted a refuge from the assault on the senses that is life in New York City. Much of that life is good, but much of it is also a hassle. I wanted a bubble protecting me from the stress and unpleasantness outside. ...
