Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! It's been real and it's been fun, but we're coming to the end of the 2008 LOLection® in a major way. After months of analyzing campaign song selections, viral videos and heartfelt musical tributes, here are my predictions for Tuesday night.6pm: Polls close across the country. The women from 'The View' are quarantined.6:05pm: San Francisco voters overwhelmingly approve 'Proposition R', which renames its sewage treatment plant after George W. Bush. 6:09pm: Greenville, Mississippi overwhelmingly approves its 'Proposition Y', which renames its sewage plant after Mr. Happiness.7pm: For a ...
This is kind of uncomfortable for me to share, but I'm kind of into the whole "91/2 weeks" food thing. An assortment of paddles is always nice...(moves hand to nonexistent earpiece) sorry, it's not predilections?...Oh, predictions, got it. Awk-ward. The 2008 election has been a long, strange trip indeed, and I would expect its terminus to be no less strange. Here, then, are some of my predictions for Election Day: 2008. 1. Barack Obama will win in an electoral landslide. Huge turnout in every state, combined with the crush of new voters, will flip tossup states to Obama. Final score - Obama: ...
Today we've decided to follow Denise's lead and will be running a prediction post from each Political Machine writer. The person who comes closest to guessing the number of electoral votes (538 up for grabs) each presidential candidate receives, as well as the allocation of congressional seats by party, wins a hearty pat on the back (actual prize may or may not include a hearty pat on the back).OK. Let the blindfolded game of darts begin. President: Barack Obama will win big. In terms of electoral votes, I see him getting 353. And that leaves McCain with 185.Congress: Democrats won't reach the ...
So now's the time to tell us who you think will wind up with the most electoral votes on Tuesday (or Wednesday or when the Supreme Court or Congress hears it).Jump into the comments and let us know how you think the race will pan out. Remember - 270 to win. If you'd like to give your over/under on the Senate and Congressional races as well, feel free.Does your state have early voting? Share your experiences. Have fun with it and be nice. Its almost over...Here's some links to the more popular electoral college maps to give you a start:AOL News (you can make you predictions and come back ...
I'm struggling to find within myself a gut feeling for how this election is going to shake out. This is odd for me. I usually have a definite opinion and people who know that I am into politics are used to receiving a definite answer. My problem is that I like reading about history, especially political history, and this election is really close to either 1972 or 1976, and it could shakeout either way depending on which context matches best. In 1972 we had a ton of energy on the Democratic side, rallying around an antiwar candidate and having a lot of fun pointing out the inadequacies and ...
CNN's Rebecca Sinderbrand points out that for only the second time in nearly three decades, there won't be a Bush on the presidential ballot this November. On Sunday, in an interview with SkyNews President Bush was asked about the future of the Bush family in American Presidential politics. Bush alluded to his brother, saying, "Well, we've got another one out there who did a fabulous job as governor of Florida, and that's Jeb. But you know, you better ask him whether or not he's thinking of running. But he'd ." Watch the President's interview with Sky news here. The idea of another Bush ...
During the historic week we just had, the 40th anniversary of Robert F. Kennedy's death at the hands of an assassin during his own primary bid for the Democratic nomination in 1968 was not given the attention it may have during another time. His words and legacy still ring true today. The country lost a great leader when he was gunned down at the age of 43. The New York senator and brother of JFK was known for his tireless work for civil rights during the 60's and was the driving force behind his brother's and later Lyndon Johnson's actions and advocacy for the work being done by Rev. ...
Increasingly, to some, Hillary Clinton seems like a woman living on an island. Two surveys released today illustrate what I mean. First, in her home state of New York, a new poll finds that 50% of Democrats say it's time for her to pack it in. Second, in another big state, California, The Field Poll now shows that Barack Obama is the Democratic candidate of choice by a margin of 51%-38%. Of course, these are just polls, so take them for what they're worth. The media continues its conspiratorial drum beat today, too. The LA Times piece, "Hillary face new pressure on 2 fonts," details how party ...
In two different interviews today--one with ABC's Diane Sawyer, and another with TPM's Greg Sargent--Hillary Clinton loyalist James Carville undercut a key rationale for Clinton staying in the race. According to Carville, Barack Obama will beat John McCain in the fall contest. True, he thinks that Hillary would win by a greater margin, but he believes that the Illinois Senator would as well:Asked if he thought Obama would beat McCain, Carville said, "I think he will. I think Democrats will win in November... There's a crushing desire for change in this country. No one has seen a party or brand ...
Rupert Murdoch, the conservative media giant, sees a Barack Obama presidency in our country's future. And he's not unhappy about it, either. Via The Huffington Post, Murdoch is quoted thusly regarding the Illinois Senator:"He is a rock star. I love what he is saying about education. I think he will win and I am anxious to meet him."So what about the other guy? "McCain is a friend of mine. But I think he's got a lot of problems. He has been in Congress a long time, and you have to make a lot of compromises. So what's he really stand for?... I think he has a lot of problems."Go figure. Murdoch ...
