Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! The FBI in New York has reportedly arrested Theodore Shulman, a radical abortion rights campaigner with a long history of threatening pro-life activists, and charged him with making interstate threats against two abortion opponents who were not identified. The 49-year-old Shulman was arrested on Thursday and was being held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, according to pro-life activists who were alerted to Shulman's incarceration by federal investigators. The Obama administration on Friday reversed most of the provisions of controversial federal conscience-protection regulations that were instituted by George W. Bush at the end of his presidency, thereby leaving Bush's successor with a politically difficult decision that would alienate either abortion rights supporters or opponents, or both. The Bush administration had pushed the 11th-hour regulations through in December 2008, despite President-elect Obama's vow to rescind them; when Obama came into office, he instead said he would have the Department of Health and Human Services review the ...
Live Action, a conservative anti-abortion group, posted footage today showing some of its members portraying sex traffickers seeking guidance at a Planned Parenthood clinic. The edited video supposedly shows the clinic employee "turning a blind eye to underage prostitution." It quickly drew debate from bloggers across the Internet, raising questions surrounding Planned Parenthood's mission, the specific employee's behavior, Live Action's history and the legitimacy of the video editing itself. Watch the video below: Here are a wide range of viewpoints on the clip, courtesy of Surge ...
Pennsylvania doctor Kermit Gosnell has been charged with eight counts of murder related to his work as an abortion provider. He is accused of killing one woman and seven babies who were born alive at the Women's Medical Society in Philadelphia. Nine of Gosnell's employees have also been charged. According to Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, Gosnell performed illegal, late-term abortions and used scissors to kill viable babies born after he induced labor. The family of Karna Mongar, a woman who died after a 2009 abortion performed by Gosnell, has filed a wrongful-death suit. ...
Just ahead of Election Day, one of the most influential American churchmen in the Vatican, Cardinal-designate Raymond L. Burke, has warned Catholic voters in the United States that they may never vote for politicians who support abortion rights or same-sex marriage, position usually associated with Democratic candidates. Burke, an outspoken conservative and the former archbishop of St. Louis who will be made a cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI next month, made his remarks in a videotaped interview in Rome with Thomas J. McKenna, head of Catholic Action for Faith and Family, a conservative ...

(Oct. 21) -- An anti-abortion ad by Washington, D.C., tea party candidate Missy Smith has achieved an unlikely distinction of being banned on YouTube while still being allowed -- actually, constitutionally protected -- on local television. The ad, which features extremely graphic pictures of aborted late-term fetuses, was deemed by YouTube to violate the site's policy on posting "shocking or disgusting content," ABC News reported. But television stations in the D.C. area will run the spot along with a warning to viewers about its graphic content. After noting that she had had two ...
This op-ed column was written by Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, a nationwide network of over 280,000 pro-life Americans dedicated to advancing, mobilizing and representing pro-life women in the political process. The day after another remarkable primary there is no question that the political apple cart is thoroughly upset and a realignment is taking place. As the final votes are counted, pro-choice Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) nears defeat to the pro-life Joe Miller, another pro-life attorney general candidate emerges from the Florida Republican primary, ...
(Aug. 13) -- If the morning-after contraception pill Plan B proved controversial, the newly approved "ella" should prove five times as much. The Food and Drug administration today gave the green light to ella, which boasts of being able to prevent unwanted pregnancies for up to five days after sexual intercourse. Also known by its generic name, ulipristal acetate, ella, like RU-486, blocks progesterone activity in a woman's body, The Washington Post reported, thereby delaying the ovaries from producing an egg. While that suppression means that, in most cases, sperm will never have the ...
The title of the documentary, "12th and Delaware," now showing on HBO, seemed lackluster until I understood its significance. Directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady [disclosure: Grady is the daughter of my Politics Daily colleagues Bonnie Goldstein and James Grady] the film tells the story of an abortion clinic that opened at 12th & Delaware in Fort Pierce, Fla. in 1991. Eight years later, a pro-life Pregnancy Care Center opened up directly across the street. Today, 12th and Delaware is where pro-life and pro-choice passions intersect. I have a love-hate relationship with documentaries. ...
