Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! The FBI in New York has reportedly arrested Theodore Shulman, a radical abortion rights campaigner with a long history of threatening pro-life activists, and charged him with making interstate threats against two abortion opponents who were not identified. The 49-year-old Shulman was arrested on Thursday and was being held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, according to pro-life activists who were alerted to Shulman's incarceration by federal investigators. An officer at the correctional center referred a calls about inmates to the public relations office, ...
The Obama administration on Friday reversed most of the provisions of controversial federal conscience-protection regulations that were instituted by George W. Bush at the end of his presidency, thereby leaving Bush's successor with a politically difficult decision that would alienate either abortion rights supporters or opponents, or both. The Bush administration had pushed the 11th-hour regulations through in December 2008, despite President-elect Obama's vow to rescind them; when Obama came into office, he instead said he would have the Department of Health and Human Services review the ...
It finally happened: I'm writing about Justin Bieber. In case you've been waiting to find out what he thinks about abortion, Rolling Stone asked him: "I really don't believe in abortion," Bieber told the magazine. "It's like killing a baby?" When asked about abortion in cases of incest or rape, he answered: "Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that." Steven Ertelt over at LifeNews.com asked some pro-lifers what they think of the news: Erik Whittington of Rock for Life, a ...
Who orchestrated the latest Planned Parenthood hoax, in which people pretending to be sex traffickers sought advice from clinic staff? Her name is Lila Rose, and she's well known on both sides of the abortion debate. Although she's only 22 years old, she's been a high-profile member of anti-abortion circles for at least seven years. Surge Desk has the facts about the young woman who founded Live Action, the group that made the Planned Parenthood video. 1. She thinks abortions "should be performed in public" Rose voiced this opinion at the 2009 Values Voter Summit, where she was an invited ...
Live Action, a conservative anti-abortion group, posted footage today showing some of its members portraying sex traffickers seeking guidance at a Planned Parenthood clinic. The edited video supposedly shows the clinic employee "turning a blind eye to underage prostitution." It quickly drew debate from bloggers across the Internet, raising questions surrounding Planned Parenthood's mission, the specific employee's behavior, Live Action's history and the legitimacy of the video editing itself. Watch the video below: Here are a wide range of viewpoints on the clip, courtesy of Surge ...
Last month a Planned Parenthood in New Jersey called the FBI to report its hunch that anti-abortion operatives were visiting the clinic and posing as sex traffickers in order to entrap clinic staff. Today that hunch was proved correct. An anti-abortion group called Live Action has posted video of its scam, in which group members pretend to be a prostitute and a pimp seeking information about STD testing for underage Asian girls. Watch: If posing as a pimp while shooting undercover video sounds familiar, that's because it's the same technique conservative activist James O'Keefe used in ...
As abortion opponents prepare for their annual March for Life on the Mall in Washington on Monday, pro-life activists are revitalized by the prospect of a Republican-dominated House they view as friendlier to their agenda than at any time since the Jan. 22, 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. For example, new House leader John Boehner has said he wants to be "the most pro-life speaker ever" and New Jersey Republican Chris Smith, co-chair of the Congressional Pro-life Caucus, called this "the arguably most pro-life House ever," a judgment with which many abortion opponents ...
Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who is expected to seek the GOP nomination for president in 2012, this week became embroiled in controversy over comments he made about President Obama and the abortion issue. During an interview with CNS News' Terry Jeffrey, Santorum noted then-candidate Obama's 2008 comments that determining when human life begins was above his pay grade. Here is Santorum's controversial quote: "The question is (and this is what Barack Obama didn't want to answer): Is that [unborn] human life a 'person' under the Constitution? And Barack Obama says no. Well if ...
Pennsylvania doctor Kermit Gosnell has been charged with eight counts of murder related to his work as an abortion provider. He is accused of killing one woman and seven babies who were born alive at the Women's Medical Society in Philadelphia. Nine of Gosnell's employees have also been charged. According to Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, Gosnell performed illegal, late-term abortions and used scissors to kill viable babies born after he induced labor. The family of Karna Mongar, a woman who died after a 2009 abortion performed by Gosnell, has filed a wrongful-death suit. ...
The 2010 elections represent not just a good result for pro-life female candidates, but a good result for all women. The reason is simple: Since 1992, which liberal groups dubbed the Year of the Woman, elected women in Congress have represented the views of pro-choice activists, not the views of American women. On November 2, that imbalance dramatically shifted toward the pro-life side of the scale, and it is just the beginning. More than sheer numbers are involved, but the numbers alone are compelling. They underscore first and foremost that, as good as this election cycle was for fiscal ...
