Why the GOP Should Insist on New Debate Rules for 2012

Why the GOP Should Insist on New Debate Rules for 2012

It was recently announced that Politico and NBC News would co-host the first 2012 debate at the Ronald Reagan Library. I happen to like NBC News and Politico, but this announcement got me thinking about a topic that has bothered me for a while. The fact is, Republicans should have some say into who hosts their debates. In the past, Republicans had little choice but to allow the mainstream media to set much of the ground rules for debates. After all, they controlled the means of production and dissemination. And while I do not ascribe to the notion that conservatives should avoid the media, ...

Health Care, the GOP, and the Consequences of Compromise

Health Care, the GOP, and the Consequences of Compromise

Abandonment is one of the most effective, though least utilized, public relations techniques ever invented. It works like this: When your prospects for success are doomed, giving up is sometimes the most unpredictable – and devastating – thing you can do to your opponents. This technique appears to be playing out before our eyes. If, as now seems likely, Democrats abandon their prized "public option" on health care reform, the pressure will then shift to Republicans. Those in the minority party will then face their own internecine decisions whether to support a compromise, such ...

Rush Limbaugh Compared to Jesus... Christ, That is

Rush Limbaugh Compared to Jesus... Christ, That is

Maybe I fell asleep that day in Sunday school. Politico and Crooks and Liars note that Redstate Chief Erick Erickson sees divinity in conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh: Peter, under pressure and fear, denied Christ not just once, but three times. Peter, though, feared death. The strain on Peter was great. The rest of us, though, typically fear the opinions of others. There are those who like it when we feel guilty for associating with someone. More troubling, in the conservative movement and in the greater right-of-center coalition, there are many, many fellow traveler who would rather ...

RedState Radio On Obama's Weekly Address

RedState Radio On Obama's Weekly Address

RedState.com's RedState Radio has started a new weekly radio response to Obama's weekly webcast. The topic this week, of course, is the stimulus. Well worth a listen as these three Redstaters take down Obama and his hot air paragraph by paragraph. My only critique is that Derek Hunter's Hepburn sounded more like crazy stalker guy from Blades of Glory ... "I totally wanna cut off your skin and wear it to my birthday ... it's coming up"I continue to be amazed at the audacity of Obama propaganda, and the docile acceptance of his every word by his fawning minions. His dishonest spin regarding the ...

Tommy Christopher Resigns Over RedState Flap

Controversy erupted yesterday when RedState.com's Erick Erickson took exception to The Political Machine writer Tommy Christopher's thorough analysis of GOP reaction to the Chip Saltsman kerfuffle. The candidate for RNC chair may see his hopes for gaining that post scuttled by his gift of a CD containing songs like "Barack the Magic Negro" and "The Star Spanglish Banner." Sadly, that's not the only casualty of this brouhaha. This morning, Tommy Christopher announced his resignation. The Political Machine has obtained the following excerpt: After a wonderful working relationship, lasting just ...
