Ordeal of Freed Times Reporters Highlights Dangers Faced by Journalists

Gunfire. Sexual assault. Beatings. These are just a few of the abuses New York Times reporters and photographers said they suffered when they were captured by the Libyan government and held for six days until their release Monday, a stark reminder of the huge risks often taken by journalists when they cover some of the world's most important and compelling stories. The journalists' account of the ordeal is harrowing. It began when their driver accidentally drove into a checkpoint manned by forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi and the group was immediately ambushed and nearly killed by a barrage ...

American Woman's Release in Peru Caps Long Drama

(May 26) -- Lori Berenson is still a long way from home. But after serving nearly 15 years in Peruvian prisons for collaborating with a leftist rebel group, the native New Yorker and political activist is finally free from prison, released on parole Tuesday by a judge in Lima. She cannot leave Peru until 2015, when her 20-year sentence is up. 40-year-old Berenson's release ends a yearslong drama that placed the American woman at the center of a violent conflict that couldn't have been further from her Manhattan upbringing as the daughter of two college professors. James O'Keefe Released on Bond, Ordered to Live With Parents Until February Hearing

James O'Keefe, the 25-year-old conservative filmmaker who was arrested this week in connection with a plot to tamper with phone lines in Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's New Orleans office, is out of jail on $10,000 bond, Talking Points Memo reports. The judge ordered O'Keefe to live with his parents until a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 13. O'Keefe's parents live in New Jersey and have not said much about the arrest. O'Keefe's father told the Associated Press that he was confident the alleged plot was "poor judgment ... but not much more." O'Keefe's only comment came through Twitter, where ...

Alay Soler is a Lost Cause

Alay Soler is a Lost Cause

So how strange is this: A team that is having a famous problem regarding the competency of their starting pitching has released a guy who pitched a 1-0 complete game shutout last season. That tells you just how far Alay Soler has fallen. While it is unusual to cut loose a player with two weeks remaining in spring training, one Mets official referred to Soler as a "lost cause" and indicated that the front office was fed up with him after a lackluster performance Monday in Viera. Soler allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings, including a solo homer to the Nats' Ryan Zimmerman, and team officials also ...

T.J. Rushing Released By Colts?

T.J. Rushing Released By Colts?

If you browse over to Scout.com and go to the Colts page, you will notice on the top headlines that it says, "T.J. Rushing: Released By Colts."If this is true, it would come as a complete shock to me. I can't really understand it to be honest. Rushing was a great return man in college with Stanford and the Colts took him with their 7th round pick with the hope that he could take over as their return man. I don't see anyone on the Colts roster that hasn't proven themselves as a horrible return man. Rushing had some excellent returns in the preseason before he suffered some minor groin and leg ...
