New RNC Chief Reince Priebus Fires GOP Convention Staff

Reince Priebus is cleaning house. Just days after being elected the head of of the Republican National Committee, Priebus has sacked the staff involved in planning the 2012 GOP convention. In a written statement, Priebus said changes were necessary to ensure that the convention in Tampa, Fla., "will be worthy" of the Republican candidate for president. "Those changes start today. I have discontinued the employment of the convention liaison and the employees of the Committee on Arrangements, effective immediately," Priebus said. "I look forward to bringing on top-notch staff and planning a ...

Arizona, Florida, Utah Finalists for 2012 Republican Convention

Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Tampa, Fla., are the possible sites for the 2012 Republican National Convention, which will nominate the party's candidate for president. The Republican National Committee's site selection team will visit the cities in late March and early April, Talking Points Memo reported. The 12-member panel will submit its findings in time for a July vote by the full committee membership. "Phoenix, Tampa, and Salt Lake City are all amazing American cities and I wish them the best of luck with their bids," RNC chairman Michael Steele said in a statement. ...

GOP Convention Bounce Showing Up Early

GOP Convention Bounce Showing Up Early

On the day after the Republican Party convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, there are indications that the traditional post-convention bounce usually seen in opinion polling is materializing early for the GOP. The Real Clear Politics polling average has narrowed to show Sen. Barack Obama with a 2.5 point lead over Sen. John McCain. That is down four points in the last three days. The reason for the tightening can be found in two of the components of the average, the Gallup and Rasmussen Reports daily tracking polls.Gallup shows the race as a 48-44% Obama lead, down from a nine-point Obama ...

Palin Perseveres Through Speech Problems

Palin Perseveres Through Speech Problems

Governor Sarah Palin's blockbuster speech to the Republican National Convention last night at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota was not without its problems. The buzz on the ground in the Xcel Center this morning is that Palin's performance, remarkable and powerful as it was, was delivered without the aid of a teleprompter. The teleprompter operator scrolled through the applause lines in the speech, essentially stranding Palin on the stage in the middle of the biggest speech of her political career. Palin was unfazed by the technical problems, and was not thrown off stride by another, ...

Republicans Sing!!

Republicans Sing!!

A quick word on Sarah's speech:I thought it was a great performance. I sat in the aisle next to the Michigan delegation, all of them in hockey jerseys. (They went berserk at the pit bull remark.) I can't imagine speaking to a crowd of 37 million after the week she's had (even if she's mostly responsible for the press pandemonium surrounding her personal life). And yet she seemed totally centered. To say she was "just" reading a speech is stupidity. (It took a superstar like Hillary Clinton 20 years to figure out how to deliver a speech.) What's more she said much of what Giuliani said right ...

Who Wrote Palin's Speech?

By  David Knowles - Politics Daily
Who Wrote Palin's Speech?

Yesterday, John McCain's campaign manager told reporters that their camp was busy tinkering with Sarah Palin's big speech so that it would be less "masculine." The speech, you see, had been written before she'd been picked, for a man. But who, exactly, wrote it? The Obama campaign claims it was Bush speechwriter, Matthew Scully. Clearly, Palin added her two cents, biographical details, and delivered the whole thing with conviction and flair. And, indeed, most of the speeches we hear from politicians have been largely ghost-written. But given the fact that the bulk of Palin's was prepared in ...

Hot Mic: Pundits Caught Bashing McCain's Choice

Hot Mic: Pundits Caught Bashing McCain's Choice

The first rule of being on television is even when the mics are supposedly off, never say anything you wouldn't say on camera. Because only the engineers know when the mics are really off. Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan and Time columnist Mike Murphy forgot that rule after appearing with NBC's Chuck Todd and were caught on tape disparaging John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin for VP. Murphy -- a former McCain adviser -- says the choice is "cynical" and "gimmicky." Noonan's opinion is even stronger. PN: It's over. MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do ...

A Noun, a Verb and Giuliani

A Noun, a Verb and Giuliani

Since Senator Joe Biden put his name back on the snark map for his now infamous debate quote from October, '07, "There's only three things he mentions in a sentence -- a noun, a verb and 9/11. There's nothing else!", much has changed. Rudy is no longer a candidate for anything and Joe Biden is the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee. The Mayor of 9/11 is speaking tonight at the Republican National Convention. The RNC has released the following remarks that have been prepared for delivery, but how many times will he invoke 9/11?: On the importance of this election: "This is a time for ...

Palin Speech to Feature Bio and Policy

Palin Speech to Feature Bio and Policy

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will address the Republican National Convention here at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, tonight at 10:30 eastern time. In what will easily be the biggest speech of her young political career, Palin will accept the Republican Party's nomination for Vice-President. No matter what she says or how she delivers the lines, however, one thing is clear. Judging from the reaction of the delegates to her selection, Gov. Palin will receive rock star treatment from the audience.Delegates arriving early for tonight's session seem universally confident that Palin will not ...
