Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul received a cease-and-desist letter from the multiplatinum Canadian rock band Rush, ordering the Republican to stop playing its music at campaign events. Paul had used Rush tunes, including 1980's "The Spirit of Radio," to fire up crowds. The band's 1981 hit and classic rock staple "Tom Sawyer" was also featured in an internet fundraising video. Robert Farmer, an attorney for Rush's label Anthem Entertainment Group, sent a letter to the Rand campaign, accusing it of violating copyright laws and urging it to stop using the music, Louisville's ...
LOS ANGELES -- Walking out of a restaurant in Los Angeles last week, the former House Majority Leader was stopped by a stranger. "Aren't you Tom DeLay?" the man asked. "Yes, I am." "I am so glad you are out of politics," the man crowed. "Well, so am I," he replied; who says common ground is hard to find? ...
Maybe I fell asleep that day in Sunday school. Politico and Crooks and Liars note that Redstate Chief Erick Erickson sees divinity in conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh: Peter, under pressure and fear, denied Christ not just once, but three times. Peter, though, feared death. The strain on Peter was great. The rest of us, though, typically fear the opinions of others. There are those who like it when we feel guilty for associating with someone. More troubling, in the conservative movement and in the greater right-of-center coalition, there are many, many fellow traveler who would rather ...
Earlier this month, Mark and Tommy posted stories about an article on Rush's ratings and whether they doubled. At the time I had to agree with Tommy that it was highly suspect that Rush's ratings actually doubled. I thought they had gone up, but when you have twenty million listeners, the law of diminishing returns kicks in.Let's get the claim accurate. According to Talkers magazine earlier this month, Rush's ratings nearly doubled from 14 to 25 million. And now we have some hard numbers rolling in to check the claim. According to The Radio Equalizer, most markets saw a significant increase. ...
Ever since Barack Obama started seizing companies -- and pushing his pseudo-fascist notion of "national service" -- I've noted some subtle changes bubbling up from deep within the conservative movement. The change is: Who is John Galt?... Perhaps you've noticed the trend, too? Your Facebook page may now list you as "Libertarian" or "classical liberal," instead of "very conservative." If that's the case, you know exactly what I mean. If not, read on... BACK IN THE 1990's -- before anyone knew the names George W. Bush or Barack Obama -- being a young conservative was a lot more fun. It was easy ...
Bill Sammon has an excellent piece up on how James Carville -- who has criticized Rush Limbaugh for hoping Obama fails -- was himself hoping George W. Bush would fail the morning of 9-11.Here's an excerpt: On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on America, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: "I certainly hope he doesn't succeed." Carville was joined by Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg, who seemed encouraged by a survey he had just completed that revealed ...
We've seen this before. A neo-conservative luminary says something critical about conservatism, is showered by adulation by the liberal press, finds that he likes it and tries to springboard the criticism to launch a bigger career. In David Frum's case, this was started with his criticism of Sarah Palin, but Copious Dissent has his number and reports the sad trajectory from there.Personally, I wish I could generate an audience simply by people hating my guts. But, that is David Frum's entire shtick. He writes a book about how Conservatives "can win again" by abandoning Conservatism, and it is ...
Rush to the president:Now that your handlers are praising themselves for promoting me as the head of a political party -- they think that's a great thing -- then it should be a no-brainer for you to further advance this strategy by debating me on the issues and on the merits, and wipe me out once and for all! Just come on this program. Let's have a little debate. You tell me how wrong I am and you can convince the rest of the Americans that don't agree with you how wrong we all are. You're a smart guy, Mr. President. You don't need these hacks to front for you. You've debated the best! You've ...
It's intriguing to see how liberals descended on Rush Limbaugh's excellent speech at CPAC on Saturday. Obama Cheif of Staff Rahm Emanuel is trying to declare Rush the leader of the GOP, which he seems to think would make it easier for him to skewer the party based on Limbaugh's supposedly divisive rhetoric. Personally, I think that is evidence that he didn't listen to the speech. The Huffington Post seems to be foaming at the mouth over the issue, with a giant front page story on the dust-up between Limbaugh and Michael Steele. Steele himself made his comment while being grilled by D.L. ...
Click To Play Responding to RNC Chairman Michael Steele's recent comments, Rush Limbaugh fired back on his radio show today."The Republican National Committee and Michael Steele need a little leadership ... we're going to have to drag them kicking and screaming back to our core," Limbaugh said. "They are caught up in so much fear because of where they live and work in Washington, DC," he added.Responding to Steele's argument that he is the "de facto" head of the GOP, Limbaugh warned: "Michael Steele -- you are head of the RNC -- you are not head of the Republican Party." Limbaugh went ...
