Snow Heading for San Francisco, Seattle and Portland

Do cable cars have snow tires? A major winter storm is poised to descend upon the Northwestern United States over the next two days, bringing snow as far south as San Francisco after dusting Seattle and Portland, Ore. The Seattle area could see as much as 6 inches of snow before the Arctic air mass moves eastward. Portland can expect between 1 and 3 inches. Only trace amounts are expected to stick on the ground in San Francisco, but the hills around the Bay Area, such as Mount Tamalpias and Mount Diablo, are expected to see accumulations of the white stuff. Female Voters, We Need You

Female Voters, We Need You

I admit it. I have a terrible voting record. My dad is Republican-leaning and I am a Democrat, so assuming we would cancel each other out, we have lazily ignored most elections. This year, with the midterms approaching, I finally understand that my vote will make a difference. I have been trying to keep up on all the debates involving women's issues and women candidates (harder than it sounds with three kids and a start-up business). Recently I heard Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, speak to a small group at the Fourth Annual San Francisco Women's Policy Summit. The title of ...

'If You See It in the Sun, It's So': A Christmas Wish for Newspapers

If you are reading this article, you are doing so online, as Politics Daily is a digital portal in our Digital Age. In other words, I'm no Luddite; in fact, I've bet my career that Politics Daily and other online publications are the future of journalism. Nonetheless, my Christmas wish is that in 2010 newspaper publishers will patch up their leaky hulls and right their ships. A great deal depends on it. Until yesterday, Saturday, December 19, 2009 was the last time a newspaper had appeared on my doorstep. After our recent snowstorm, Arlington, Va., where I live, couldn't manage to plow the ...
