Home to California's male death row, the prison sits on a desirable plot of Marin County overlooking San Francisco Bay and has hosted the likes of such crooning celebrities as Johnny Cash ("At San Quentin," 1969) and B.B. King ("Live at San Quentin," 1990). As of Wednesday, the jail can now add "inmate heroes" to the boasting list.
