Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Sarah Palin talks a lot about the tea party. On Fox News last week, she said, "I find inspiration in tea party patriots [and] those with common sense who aren't playing a lot of games." She could be considered the tea party's godmother. With her Sarah PAC and support for 2010 tea party candidates, Palin has generated a lot of good will, not to mention publicity, for a movement that began only two years ago. She also isn't afraid to attack popular Republicans such as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Related Stories Sarah Palin's India Trip: Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela ...
Mitt Romney, the sort-of second-place finisher in the 2008 Republican presidential sweepstakes, is taking a different approach this year. Rather than trying to create an early splash, Romney is taking his time in declaring a presidential bid and, as The New York Times puts it, "is operating in a cautious, low-key fashion . . . with limited news coverage." The conventional view is that the former Massachusetts governor is doing so to avoid becoming the official front-runner -- a position that would place a large bull's eye on his back. But there may be another reason: He doesn't want to live in ...
WAUKEE, Iowa -- Who needs declared candidates? The race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination unofficially launched at a church here Monday night when 2,000 fired-up conservatives got their first side-by-side look at five White House prospects. The potential contenders ranged from former House speaker Newt Gingrich, once behind only the vice president in the line of the succession for the presidency, to Herman Cain, an Atlanta entrepreneur and radio host who has never held office. Gov. Terry Branstad was onstage, as was conservative Christian strategist Ralph Reed. The roster ...
The mama grizzly's mad. In a weekend interview on Fox News, Sarah Palin finally responded to comedian Kathy Griffin, who has mined the Palin family for material since they landed on the national stage in 2008. Griffin is preparing for an upcoming guest spot on "Glee," in a role that's reportedly based loosely on Palin. The former governor's take? "She's a 50-year-old adult bully," Palin said, "kind of a has-been comedienne." Ouch. Watch: And, in case you missed any of the cracks, here's a brief rundown of Griffin's jokes at the Palin family's expense. 1. On owing Sarah Palin "a muffin ...
Sarah Palin's father says he and his wife have taken to sleeping with guns after the family started receiving death threats. In an interview with BBC News, Chuck Heath said a man recently sent him and his wife, Sally, photocopies of a receipt for a gun he had bought, along with with a photocopy of a one-way ticket to Alaska. The man was later arrested by the FBI, but Palin's father said the incident rattled the family. "We sleep with the guns," Chuck Heath said in the interview at his home in Wasilla, Alaska, where Sarah Palin was mayor. Palin's mother, Sally Heath, admitted to the BBC ...
Everyone is used to the familiar "horse race" poll that tells us who is out front when it comes to a campaign, but Quinnipiac University has a different measure for some of today's leading political personalities: namely, who ranks the "warmest" and "coldest" on a "feelings thermometer"? ...
The jokes are already flying as Sarah Palin prepares to embark on a trip to India later this month, and more are surely to come. Will she rock a sari? Perhaps guest star in a Bollywood movie? Or bathe in the Ganges for a photo op? Palin has been invited to give the keynote address, "My Vision of America," at the two-day India Today conclave in New Delhi, an event hosted annually by the magazine since 2002. The March 18-19 event is sponsored by global business heavyweight Aditya Birla Group, a billion-dollar metals company, along with a bevy of industry co-sponsors. The news came in late ...
In front of an Alaskan backdrop of mountains and a lake, Sarah Palin had a busy, busy night on television Friday. She found time to tweak a fellow Republican, dismiss the president, and scold a top-rated Fox News talk show host. Palin opened by questioning New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's toughness and attacking President Barack Obama for naivete. After that, she preached about cutting various government programs to Bill O'Reilly before advising him not to interrupt her. All in a night's work. On America's Nightly Scoreboard, host David Asman informed Palin that Christie had told Fox ...
WASHINGTON -- They favor isolationism but revere wartime leaders who used America's power abroad. They worry about China almost as much as Iran as a likely future foe. And they think Barack Obama is the ideal 21st century leader and Sarah Palin is not. Those are just a few of the fascinating gleanings from a new Brookings Institution survey of millennial movers and shakers of the future called "D.C.'s New Guard: What Does the Next Generation of American Leaders Think?" AP / Getty Images A Brookings Institution survey of 1,000 young leaders found that nearly half considered ...
The National Rifle Association says it has Sarah Palin to thank for a 20 percent jump in female membership. Calling it the "Palin effect," the NRA's Diane Danielson told the Daily Mail that the former Alaska governor's vocal advocacy of gun rights is helping the group teach "10,000 new women a year to shoot, and making more girls want to take up hunting." Palin, the GOP vice presidential nominee in 2008, has bragged about her ability to field dress a moose and was often seen hunting on her reality television show. "Firearm manufacturers are gearing their products towards women. ...
