Mystery Photo of 'English Loch Ness Monster' Taken in Bowness

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words do you suppose will be used to describe the first-ever image captured of "Bow-Nessie," a lake monster that reportedly lives in England? Last week, two kayakers were nearly frightened out of their canoe when they spotted a large, hump-backed shape emerge from Lake Windermere, near Bowness in Cumbria, The Westmorland Gazette reports. "At a distance, I thought it was some sort of large dog. Then I realized just how long it was. There was no way a dog would be out that far in any case," said Tom Pickles, adding that the supposed creature was ...

Climber Survives 1,000-Foot Fall Down Scottish Mountain

LONDON -- As Adam Potter hiked along the snow-blown summit of Sgurr Choinnich Mor in the Scottish Highlands on Saturday, he stopped to offer his three mountain climbing companions some smart advice. "It was icy, snowy, and we got to a point where I said, 'OK, let's put on our crampons on and get our axes out now, just in case,'" he told Scotland's Daily Record newspaper. Potter indicated the group should get their gear out behind a rock some 15 feet away. Potter, 32, never made it to the boulder. After walking a few paces, his feet suddenly slipped out from under him, sending him sliding ...
