Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!(Dec. 7) -- Suddenly, he's everywhere. Independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont indicated Monday that he may seek to filibuster the new deal struck between President Barack Obama and Republicans over keeping the Bush tax cuts in place for the wealthiest Americans in exchange for a 13-month extension of unemployment benefits for those Americans out of work for longer than six months. Sanders, who has described himself as a "socialist," spoke to liberal MSNBC host Ed Schultz about what he views as a betrayal. Days earlier, on the floor of the Senate, Sanders delivered an ...
Newt Gingrich has unleashed some of his most explosive language yet against Barack Obama, telling National Review Online that a "Kenyan, anti-colonial" mindset governs the president's actions, which he blasted as "authentically dishonest" and "factually insane." Gingrich's comments on the website of the conservative periodical were inspired, he said by a sharp-edged analysis of Obama by the conservative pundit, Dinesh D'Souza, in the latest edition of Forbes. In that article, D'Souza says that in his policies Obama is essentially channeling the soul of his late Kenyan-born father, an African ...

If a space alien landed on American soil tomorrow, it could be forgiven for thinking the president of the United States also represents a place called "Socialism."A quick tour of the Web turns up hundreds of socialist-inspired images of Barack Obama-- Obama as Che Guevara on "Che Obama Socialist" t-shirts; Obama as a radical Marxist at Obama4Socialism.net. Even the Investor's Business Daily penned a series of editorials on the Obama agenda called, "The Audacity of Socialism."And when President Obama announced he'd be giving a back-to-school message to students, now-famous Florida GOP'er, Jim ...
Even if it's true that Obama is a socialist, what's the big problem? ...
Earlier in this year's campaign, back when it seemed certain that Hillary Clinton would become the Democratic nominee, I wrote a post titled, "Hillary Clinton is a Socialist!" That article looked at what was then the biggest insult the GOP was leveling at the New York senator. To many of Clinton's detractors, her proposal for universal health care smacked of a Stalinist plot, and provided all the ideological rationale required to oppose her. Well, of late, Barack Obama has taken over Clinton's dubious title. Now, he's the one accused of being the socialist. You hear it from Sarah Palin and the ...
About two or three weeks ago, Democrats and Obama supporters were trying to make hay with Sarah Palin and the Alaska Independence Party. Nothing much ever came of it, as she's been a Republican since she could vote. Todd Palin was a member, but the AIP appears to be one of those hopeless causes (like splitting the Upper and Lower peninsulas of MI), that don't ever do anything. But on the matter of embarrassing ties to extremist parties, it looks like Barack may have some serious explaining to do. As it turns out he just might be a socialist. No, not a socialist in the sense that Republicans ...
The title of this piece is lifted from an oft-repeated comment on political blogs such as our own. Indeed, it has become a Right Wing talking point, a fall back assertion that, to some conservatives, seals the deal. Socialists are bad, Hillary Clinton is a socialist, therefore Hillary Clinton is bad. One wonders what image pops into the minds of people who make this claim. What is socialism to them? Is it Hitler's National Socialism? China's totalitarian Cultural Revolution? A life spent wasting away in a Soviet Gulag? ...
