Canada - The Final Frontier: Shatner Says He Wants to be Prime Minister

Set phasers on "Hoser!"From Captain Ed: From the Too Weird to Check files: William Shatner wants to be Prime Minister of Canada. The star of Star Trek has reportedly set his sights on a place where many men have gone before, only they usually got there through years of political career-building. But was he serious? The 77-year-old star said: "My intention is to be Prime Minister of Canada, not Governor General, which is mainly a ceremonial position." Shatner revealed his lofty ambition in response to a letter from a fan who urged him to put himself forward for the Governor General of Canada. ...

Star Trek 2008: The Wrath of McKhain

Star Trek 2008: The Wrath of McKhain

JJ Abrams, producer of the best show on television, has breathed fresh life into Star Trek by using old characters with a new cast and a new attitude. If you watched the new trailer, and didn't feel the urge to rush giddily to the theater right now to line up for the May premier, then you must be some kind of emotionless, green-blooded freak. Still, the honeymoon for the new, old Trek franchise is likely to be short, so I've got a backup plan ready to go. Election 2008 was a historic event, epic in its sweep. I think that by combining it with the classic Trek characters, JJ and I will have an ...

Star Trek: The Vexed Generation

Star Trek: The Vexed Generation

It is the third day after seeing the new Star Trek trailer. I still have a slight ringing in my ears and some dizziness, but I think I'm finally coming down. In light of the buzz surrounding the new Trek flick (woohoo!), which recasts our favorite old characters with new actors, Tommy Christopher and I have been doing a little recasting of our own. Yesterday, we theorized about which members of Starfleet (or otherwise) would be wise choices for the Obama administration and why ... an exercise I clearly won. Today, we are taking that premise and reversing it, deciding who our favorite ...

Political Star Trek II: Politicians Strike Back

Even funnier, and with lots of hee-larious pictures, these are the funniest Star Trek political stories you're gong to read this year. So, go ahead and watch the new trailer again, then join us to boldly go where no blog has gone before. >Star Trek: The Vexed Generation- by Caleb Howe Star Trek 2008: The Wrath of McKhain – by Tommy Christopher ...

Barack Obama Meets Star Trek

Update: Writing one political article about Star Trek is challenging, to say the least. Caleb and I have now written four. We had so much fun doing the first two of these that we decided to turn the premise inside-out, and populate the Star Trek universe with figures from this year's election season. Even funnier, and with lots of hee-larious pictures, these are the funniest Star Trek political stories you're gojng to read this year. Obama's Star Trek Casting Call

By  Caleb Howe - Politics Daily
Obama's Star Trek Casting Call

So the perfectly logical and utterly expected question regarding the Obama administration has, at last, been asked: Which Star Trek luminaries ought to populate the Obama administration's universe? Tommy Christopher has already provided his analysis, but herein in find the actual answers. (To see the politicians transported to Star Trek roles, click here.) I'll be ranking this fleet based on their degree of importance to an Obama administration. The first will be the most critical to his success, the last the least. OBAMA STAR TREK APPOINTMENTS 1) Redshirt: Poor redshirts always take ...

Which Star Trek Characters Should Be In Barack Obama's Cabinet?

Which Star Trek Characters Should Be In Barack Obama's Cabinet?

With the release of the newest trailer to the upcoming 11th Star Trek movie, entitled Trek (not to be confused with the forthcoming musical, Trek!), it became obvious to me that as soon as the Starship Enterprise arrives here in May, Barack Obama will be forced to dump his entire cabinet in favor of the far superior candidates who populate that fair vessel.Ever the helpful former cadet (I was drummed out of Starfleet Academy for constantly setting my phaser on "strip"), I have compiled a list of appointments for Senator Obama, to help speed the transition.James T. Kirk: Initially, I favored ...

McCain Camp Flubs NASA Press Release

McCain Camp Flubs NASA Press Release

The McCain campaign sent out a press release last night with McCain's statement on the 50th anniversary of NASA. Actually, they sent out two press releases. The first contained a passage that seemed to feature McCain channeling a Soviet cosmonaut: As President, I will act to make ensure our astronauts will continue to explore space... "Please act to make ensure you are voting for me!!" A minor gaffe like this, on its own, is not a big deal. True, a 5th grader could have proofread the release and corrected it, but the Democrats have regulated 5th graders right out of the labor market. In ...

'Trekkies' vs. 'Galactica' Fans in Writer's Strike

'Trekkies' vs. 'Galactica' Fans in Writer's Strike

The Writer's Guild of America Strike has taken a tragic turn, pitting brother against brother. According to Wired News, the labor dispute has pitted two normally sympathetic, if competing, groups against each other: Star Trek Fans and Battlestar Galactica Fans. According to Wired, the Battlestar Galactica Fans tend to side with the writers, while the Star Trek Fans, fearful of delays to the much anticipated "Star Trek" prequel, "Trek", tend to be pro-management. All of which puts yours truly in an awkward position. As a longstanding member of both groups, I feel tremendous pressure to be a ...

Battlestar Galactica: Best Poli-SciFi Videos

Battlestar Galactica: Best Poli-SciFi Videos

Battlestar Galactica, the aforementioned best political show on television, returns to Sci-Fi Channel tonight with the much-awaited movie, "Razor" (check local listings). Check out the trailer and several "flashback" shorts that were shot as backstory for the new movie below. The re-imagined Battlestar Galactica is not your father's space parable. Updated for a generation who thinks Richard Hatch is a tax-dodging reality show winner, this iteration eschews campy mythology references in favor of a much darker political allegory. Those familiar with the show know of it's unblinking examinations ...
