Obamas Honor Motown Music at the White House

The Obamas celebrated Black History Month and the historic role Motown Records played in American music with a concert and workshop Thursday at the White House. The events were capped by the president and wife Michelle showing some moves during the finale, "Dancing in the Streets." The Motown tribute was the latest in the Obama White House's music series, with the East Room hosting Motown artists and performers honoring the company Berry Gordy founded in Detroit in 1960. Gordy was at the show, along with the Obamas' youngest daughter, Sasha, Mrs. Obama's mother, Marion Robinson, and Vice ...

Former Showtime Boxing Boss Jay Larkin Dies at Age 59

Former Showtime Boxing Boss Jay Larkin Dies at Age 59

Lisa Larkin recalls the statement like it was yesterday, even though her husband, Jay, made it nearly a decade ago. "Jay said that pork chops would be growing on the palm trees of Tel Aviv before Mike Tyson would be allowed to fight on HBO," said Lisa Larkin of Jay, a former Showtime senior vice president who spent 22 years with the network until November of 2005. But Jay Larkin, who died Monday at age 59, was among those that made it happen in June of 2002, being instrumental in the union of Showtime -- which had Tyson -- and HBO, which had Lennox Lewis. The two cable giants teamed up to ...

Paul McCartney Sings to Michelle Obama, Zings George W. Bush

The Obamas hosted a tribute to Paul McCartney Wednesday night at the White House and the first lady was serenaded when the former Beatle sang his famous love song "Michelle." Later, after President Obama left the concert, McCartney zinged former President George W. Bush -- though not by name. Sir Paul was honored with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, an award given by the Library of Congress, but the celebration concert with an all-star cast was thrown at the White House. The First Couple and daughters Sasha, 8 and Malia, 11, sat in the front row. President Obama turned and looked at his ...

Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers to Perform at Inauguration

Maybe you have a fine appreciation for simple melodies and lyrics written in an LA boardroom. Maybe you think that Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce are all washed up. (We had to Wikipedia that last one - turns out it's a 16-year-old girl who used to be on "Barney.")But you can't go...Contrary to initial reports that it ...

Barry Bonds Is Taking Back Sunday

Barry Bonds Is Taking Back Sunday

I'm not really sure what that headline means, but it's just as good as any other to express the unlikely partnership of Barry Bonds and Taking Back Sunday, a moderately good emo band, in this anti-Barry fan video. Taking Back Sunday seems an aggressive choice. After all, it's all about matching the audio to the frame. Would the video seem lighter-hearted with "Living For The City" as soundtrack? If by lighter-hearted you mean way awesomer, then yes. Yes it would. (HT: Awful Announcing) Previously on the FanHouse:Barry Bonds tag ...
