Russia Identifies Suicide Bomber in Moscow Airport Attack

MOSCOW -- The suicide bomber who killed 35 people and wounded 180 at Moscow's largest airport was a 20-year-old man from the volatile southern Caucasus region, Russian investigators said Saturday. Breaking a five-day silence over the probe, federal investigators also said foreigners were deliberately targeted, marking an ominous new tactic in Russia's losing battle with extremism. Islamist rebels from the Caucacus, a group of mountainous Russian provinces that are beset with an entrenched separatist insurgency, have been widely suspected in the attack at Domodedovo Airport. Saturday's ...

Bombs Hit 2 Pakistani Cities, Killing 9

LAHORE, Pakistan -- A suicide bomber blew himself up near a march by minority Shiite Muslims in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Tuesday, killing at least nine people and wounding dozens, many of them security officers, officials said. A second bomb blast, also apparently targeting Shiites, wounded six in the southern city of Karachi. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the Lahore attack, which laid bare the challenges facing Pakistani officials trying to secure cities far from the northwest where the militants have long thrived. Many recent attacks have targeted minority Muslim ...

Suicide Bomber in CIA Deaths Was al-Qaeda Double Agent

The suicide bomber who killed eight people at a CIA base in Afghanistan last week was a Jordanian working as an al-Qaeda double agent. Western intelligence officials identified the suicide bomber as Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, a 36-year-old doctor from Zarqa, Jordan, the Los Angeles Times reported. Jordanian authorities, working with the CIA, arrested al-Balawi in 2008 and eventually recruited him to infiltrate al-Qaeda, believing he had rejected the terrorist group, according to the Times. "What this tells you is that al-Qaeda is now capable of running a fairly sophisticated ...
