Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!(Nov. 18) -- The Alaska Senate race is heading back to court. An attorney for tea party candidate Joe Miller asked a federal judge today to halt the certification of Lisa Murkowski as the victor. Miller's challenge will once again focus on state rules over how a write-in candidate's name can appear on a ballot. If past court action is any indication, however, Miller could face even more disappointment. On Nov. 10 an Alaska federal judge rejected Miller's request to halt the counting of write-in ballots, and in October, the Alaska Supreme Court dealt Miller a blow by ruling that even ...

(Oct. 20) -- No time for tea, after all? The news that Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, left a message on Anita Hill's answering machine on Oct. 9 asking the former staffer to apologize to her husband over past accusations of sexual harassment has been greeted with widespread puzzlement. Why dredge up the controversy now, after so many years? But Thomas isn't about to shed any light on her intentions: Shortly after the call went public Tuesday evening, she canceled an interview with NPR's "On Point" radio program. WASHINGTON (April 15) -- For the second year running, Tax Day brought a surge of grass-roots energy to the nation's capital, as thousands of tea party faithful descended on the city today for a day of protests, rallies and activism led by conservative and tea party notables. Addressing a raucous crowd in Freedom Plaza, former GOP Majority Leader and conservative activist Dick Armey said, "There's only one legitimate reason to levy a tax: to raise money. And when you do that, you should raise no more money than is absolutely necessary." Advocating a tax reform plan called the Fair Tax, Sen. ...
WASHINGTON (March 31) -- Do Democrats need a new "silent majority" to speak up and save them from electoral ruin in November? Does such a group even exist? And, if it does, will the tea party movement prove to be the right-wing mirror of the leftist anti-war movement of the 1960s? These are not idle questions for President Barack Obama, who has seen little bounce from his party's victory in passing health care reform legislation. "The good news for Democrats, after health care passed, was that Democratic intensity levels went up," party strategist James Carville told reporters Wednesday. The ...
