Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Thousands of people are currently applying to be Charlie Sheen's social media intern, but a few PR pros believe that sometimes the best prayers are those that are unanswered. The controversial -- and former -- "Two and a Half Men" star just posted an application asking for a social media intern. According to the job post, Sheen wants a "hardworking, self-motivated, creative, resourceful and social media savvy individual to work closely with him to leverage his social network." TwitPic Charlie Sheen is looking for a social media intern to help compose tweets and, presumably, take ...
Charlie Sheen now has some 1 million followers on Twitter, and that has at least one PR expert wondering if his meltdown is actually a PR stunt. A spokesperson for Guinness World Records confirms that Sheen set a world record recently for being the quickest person to gain 1 million followers, doing so in 25 hours, 17 minutes. However, the timing of Sheen's debut on Twitter is so perfect that PR expert Peter Shankman wonders if Sheen actually planned this whole thing in advance. TwitPic A PR expert wonders if the recent antics of Charlie Sheen, pictured here with Rachel Oberlin, ...
I'd never heard of Nir Rosen until Tuesday, when he became the author of the most reviled Tweets on the planet. Shortly after CBS sent out a news release explaining that correspondent Lara Logan "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating" from a crowd of Egyptians following the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Rosen started posting Tweets. (I'm cleaning up the language of his quotes here, by the way, but making no other changes.) "Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson. Where was her buddy McCrystal." "Yes yes its wrong what happened to her. Of course. I don't ...
Editor's note: Everyone knows about health care reform, the tax cut deal, the end of "don't ask, don't tell." But in a contentious election year, Washington also managed to do much that, while it got little attention, will nevertheless make a difference in the lives of millions. So we asked our network of contributors on AOL's Seed to pore through the record and find the overlooked, underreported achievements. Here's one of the top 10. (For the complete list, go here.) With Democrats and Republicans constantly at each other's throats, did anything good come out of Washington in 2010? The ...
In an unprecedented example of new-media outreach, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs spent about two hours Thursday night debating The Weekly Standard's Stephen Hayes on Twitter about the small-business bill before Congress. The debate appeared to be spontaneous -- and even spilled over into Friday morning, as Gibbs Tweeted, @stephenfhayes I have enjoyed our tweets – shows that a good debate doesn't have to be a nasty debate The debate was heated but civil. Still, some on the left were not pleased by Gibbs' outreach to a conservative pundit. For example, The American Prospect's ...
LONDON (Aug. 13) -- Chris Juby has set himself a task of truly biblical proportions: to summarize the 800,000-plus words in the Old and New Testaments in a series of snappy daily tweets. Juby, a freelance Web designer and director of worship at King's Church in the northern English city of Durham, plans to condense one Bible chapter a day down to 140 characters or less -- the maximum allowed for a single Twitter post. As the good book contains a hefty 1,189 chapters, he doesn't expect to reach the final installment of Revelation until Nov. 8, 2013. (Juby admits, though, that he might miss ...
(July 28) -- You're never too old to adapt to changes in the modern world. That's certainly one of the lessons of Ivy Bean's life. Bean passed away on July 27 at the age of 104. Born in England in 1905, she worked in a mill when she was growing up. After World War I, she married Harold Gibson Bean and took a job as a housekeeper for a wealthy family. Her husband died when she was in her 70s, the London Daily Mail reported, and nearly a quarter century later, at the age of 102, she joined Facebook and then Twitter. From her home in the English town of Bradford she started posting details of ...
UPDATE: In less than seven hours, NBA superstar LeBron James' account has gained more than 150,000 followers -- even more than Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Mashable reported. LeBron James started a Twitter account today, but contrary to the hopes of countless fans and his 100,000-plus followers, the NBA superstar and free agent has not yet revealed just which team he will be playing for next season. That all-important question, of course, has already spurred multimillion-dollar courting campaigns from teams in cities across the country, from New York City to Chicago to Miami all the way ...
Here are the 25 essential conservatives to follow on Twitter. If you're a conservative, I'm guessing you're already following most of these folks. If you're a political junkie who wants insights into the conservative world, keep reading. And if you're a liberal, you better keep tabs on this list, too. One clarification: This isn't a list of the top conservatives in America, although in many cases these Twitter-users and leading conservatives overlap. There are plenty of terrific conservative writers, politicians, and activists who don't use Twitter, or if they do, they don't use it well. ...
