Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!(Sept. 19) – Girls from higher income families without a biological father at home are more likely to hit puberty earlier than their peers, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of California at Berkeley surveyed 444 girls aged 6 to 8 years in northern California. Over two years, scientists charted symptoms indicating an onset of puberty, defined as breast development and appearance of pubic hair. They also noted differences in the girls' ethnic backgrounds, body mass index and family income. Eighty of the girls didn't live with their biological fathers, though ...
BERKELEY, Calif. (March 5) -- Anger over rising tuition and school budget cuts boiled over as students across the country staged rowdy demonstrations that led to clashes with police and the rush-hour shutdown of a major freeway in California. In Oakland, protesters evaded police and walked onto Interstate 880 near downtown Oakland just before 5 p.m., forcing the ...

It's true the UC system has been one of the biggest victims in California's budget nightmare. As a result of a $26-billion budget shortfall, the Democrats in the state legislature and Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger enacted what the University of California has called "unprecedented state budget cuts of $814 million in 2008-09 and $637 million in 2009-10." It's also true that students have been ...
