Ohio Women Charged in Assault on 71-Year-Old Walmart Greeter

A woman and her adult daughter have been charged with assaulting and threatening an elderly department store greeter in northeastern Ohio after what authorities report was a wild episode of extreme customer dissatisfaction. According to police, Ashley Jackson, 21, and her mother, Toni Duncan, 49, were shopping Saturday at a Walmart in Elyria, southwest of Cleveland, when they became angry after a customer service employee did not assist them to their satisfaction in reloading a gift card and sending a money order. Supreme Court to Take Up Huge Sex Bias Claim Against Wal-Mart

WASHINGTON -- Christine Kwapnoski hasn't done too badly in nearly 25 years in the Wal-Mart family, making more than $60,000 a year in a job she enjoys most days. But Kwapnoski says she faced obstacles at Wal-Mart-owned Sam's Club stores in both Missouri and California: Men making more than women and getting promoted faster. She never heard a supervisor tell a man, as she says one told her, to "doll up" or "blow the cobwebs off" her make-up. Once she got over the fear that she might be fired, she joined what has turned into the largest job discrimination lawsuit ever. The 46-year-old single ...

Tim Pawlenty: Meeting and Greeting on Mike Huckabee's Arkansas Turf

Arkansas doesn't have the political star power of Iowa or New Hampshire, but that isn't stopping potential 2012 presidential hopefuls from visiting. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty popped into the state this week to meet with GOP elected officials and leaders. His journey to the land of former Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee was the first this year for a likely GOP contender for the White House. Pawlenty had no public events in Arkansas, but this wasn't about selling books and giving a speech to the masses. Pawlenty's visit focused on networking and making big-money ...

People of Walmart and 4 Other Sites That Make Fun of Strangers

If you shop at Walmart, wear skinny jeans, wear sports jerseys, attend parties or post updates about your kids on your Facebook account, beware. Your photograph or update could become fodder for an online joke in which you are the punch line. Michigan resident Melanie Wheeler says her mother was shocked to find her photo on a website called People of Walmart, which posts (you guessed it) photographs of people shopping in Walmart. Anyone can take a photo, submit it to the site and see it uploaded, complete with snarky caption. Wheeler told MyFoxDetroit that her mother "was upset about it. Her ...

Wal-Mart Security Employees Fired for Disarming Store Gunman

Four Wal-Mart employees have been fired after management said they violated company policy by disarming an alleged shoplifter who had pulled a gun inside the store. Lori Poulsen, Justin Richins, Shawn Ray and Gabriel Stewart were all longtime workers at Wal-Mart's Layton, Utah, store. Poulsen was an asset protection coordinator, Richins and Ray were asset protection associates, and Stewart was an assistant manager. On Jan. 13, employees allegedly witnessed a man identified as Trent Allen Longton take a netbook computer out of the package and stuff it under his shirt. When Longton attempted ...

Walmart Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 2 Deputies Wounded

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- Detectives are investigating why a man ran from deputies and then opened fire in a Walmart parking lot, sparking a shootout that left him and the woman he apparently was with dead and two law officers wounded. Michelle Obama and Wal-Mart: Marriage of Convenience

Michelle Obama's decision to support Wal-Mart's five-year plan to cut back on unhealthy foods may raise some eyebrows in light of the company's employment practices and allegations of sex discrimination and anti-union policies. The first lady's joint venture with the nation's largest retailer was announced Thursday in Washington, D.C., at a community center in the low-income neighborhood of Anacostia. The company, which sells more groceries than any other retailer in the nation, plans to cut back on salts, fats and sugars, and to drop prices on fruits and vegetables. At the same time, ...

Sorry Sarah Palin: Michelle Obama Teaming Up With Wal-Mart on Anti-Obesity Campaign

Has Wal-Mart gone liberal? At a community center in Southeast Washington on Thursday, the nation's largest retailer announced it was joining forces with first lady Michelle Obama in an effort to promote healthy eating, The Washington Post reported. Wal-Mart executives said the company would lower prices on healthier items, increase the amount of money it donates to nutrition programs and pressure its suppliers to lower sodium and sugar levels in foods sold in its stores. "When I see a company like Wal-Mart launch an initiative like this, I feel more hopeful than ever before," the first lady ...
