Police Trying to Unravel Timeline of Mysterious Wheeler Homicide

The mystery surrounding the death of former Army officer and government military consultant John P. Wheeler III has deepened as police study a timeline of events in the case as well as a newly released video that shows a disheveled Wheeler acting in a bizarre manner in the days leading up to his apparent homicide. Wheeler, 66, was found dead in a Newark, Del., landfill on the morning of Dec. 31. An autopsy revealed the former Pentagon aide's death was a homicide, police said, although they have not commented on any details of how he might have been killed or what his killer's motive might ...

Body of Former Federal Official Found at Landfill

DOVER, Del. -- A military expert who served three Republican presidents and helped get the Vietnam Veterans Memorial built as part of his dedication to those who fought in that war was found dead in a landfill, and authorities were trying to piece together when he was last seen alive. The body of John Wheeler III, 66, was uncovered Friday when a garbage truck emptied its contents at the Cherry Island landfill in Wilmington. Delaware Jury Awards $30M to Priest Abuse Victim

(Dec. 2) -- A jury in Delaware has awarded $30 million to a man who says he was sexually abused by a Catholic priest more than 100 times as a teenager in the 1960s. It's believed to be the single largest payout to any church abuse victim in U.S. history. But it's unclear when the victim, John Vai, will get his money. The Diocese of Wilmington declared bankruptcy last year and has said it can afford to pay only $2 million in damages to abuse victims, and six other people have also filed lawsuits against the diocese alleging abuse. "I think the jury is making a statement ... telling the world ...

Shark Bite Victim: 'I Thought It Was My Best Friend's Sister'

(June 29) -- Thirteen-year-old Carley Schlentz was swimming with friends at North Carolina's Topsail Island beach when she felt something latching onto her leg. Turned out it was a 5-foot-long shark. "I thought it was my best friend's sister grabbing on to my ankle but then it got really tight," she said CBS' "The Early Show" today. "I realized something was wrong." The Greensboro girl said she was only in 4-foot-deep waters at the beach near Wilmington when she was attacked by a bull shark. Carley quickly realized the shark had already bitten her twice on the foot.   "It was pretty bad," ...

Duking It Out Over DHL

A couple of months ago, DHL announced it would be moving it's air freight business to UPS and mostly shuttering it's Wilmington facility. And since Wilmington is in Ohio, Ohio is a battleground state, and this is an election year, this has become a political football. Here's Obama's attack: And McCain's response: Unfortunately the response message discipline has run amok at McCain HQ. And in this case the message (Obama is a tax raiser) has overridden any direct response that John McCain should have made to Obama's charges over DHL. FactCheck.org does a much better job. And if McCain ...
