Wait, WTF? CIA Forms WikiLeaks Task Force (Get It?)

OMG, LOL! The Central Intelligence Agency has launched a task force to investigate the impact of WikiLeaks and its massive release of U.S. diplomatic cables. Officially, the unit is called the WikiLeaks Task Force, or WTF, which, um, also happens to be the abbreviated slang for the phrase "What the f***." Who knew spies had such a sense of humor? "The irreverence is perhaps understandable for an agency that has been relatively unscathed by WikiLeaks," explains The Washington Posts' Greg Miller. "Only a handful of CIA files have surfaced on the WikiLeaks website, and records from other ...

FBI Targets Christian Militia Group in Midwestern Raids

A Christian militia group was the focus of an FBI raid over the weekend, part of a series of actions by the bureau across Illinois, Ohio and Michigan, the Associated Press reports. Three people were arrested under a veil of secrecy, but one FBI source said they face gun charges and are due in court Monday. The source added that the FBI is now pursuing additional suspects. The names of the arrested and the groups to which they belong have not been released, and it remains unclear what prompted the action. Michael Lackomar, a spokesman for the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia, said leaders ...

Glenn Beck Urges Listeners to Leave Churches That Preach Social Justice

Glenn Beck Urges Listeners to Leave Churches That Preach Social Justice

On his daily radio and television shows last week, Fox News personality Glenn Beck set out to convince his audience that "social justice," the term many Christian churches use to describe their efforts to address poverty and human rights, is a "code word" for communism and Nazism. Beck urged Christians to discuss the term with their priests and to leave their churches if leaders would not reconsider their emphasis on social justice. "I'm begging you, your right to religion and freedom to exercise religion and read all of the passages of the Bible as you want to read them and as your church ...

Rod Blagojevich: 'I'm Blacker Than Barack Obama'

Rod Blagojevich: 'I'm Blacker Than Barack Obama'

In an interview in the February issue of Esquire, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich continues his quixotic campaign to prove he was innocent in the pay-to-play scandal that led to his resignation. In the process -- particularly when he's talking about President Obama -- he has some characteristically dubious things to say. "David Axelrod called me the day after John Kerry lost to Bush . . . and he said, 'You need to think about running for president in 2008. A new face from the Midwest to challenge Hillary Clinton,' " Blagojevich claims. "It's such a cynical business, and most of the ...

Newsweek Defends 'Sexist' Cover Photo of Sarah Palin

Newsweek Defends 'Sexist' Cover Photo of Sarah Palin

After a number of conservative bloggers -- and Sarah Palin herself -- called Newsweek's cover photo of Palin in running shorts "sexist," the magazine responded that it applied the same standards to photos of male and female politicians, and that the art and photo editors who made the decision were women. "We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do," editor Jon Meacham told the Huffington Post. "We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: Does the image convey what we are saying? ...

Texas Governor Says Obama Is 'Hell-Bent' on Socialism

Texas Governor Says Obama Is 'Hell-Bent' on Socialism

Speaking at a luncheon Wednesday in Midland, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said President Obama is "punishing" the Lone Star State and called for a new wave of "tea parties" to oppose his policies, Politico reports. "This is an administration hell-bent toward taking American towards a socialist country," Perry said. "If you all think those tea parties didn't work, then let me tell you something. When they all came home in August for those town-hall meetings, they got an earful. Then they went back to Washington, D.C., and the Senate voted that public option down in committee with a majority of ...

House Republicans Continue Muslim 'Intern Spy' Crusade

Four House Republicans are continuing a campaign that began earlier this week against the Council on American Islamic Relations for an alleged plot to plant intern "spies" in congressional offices. Reps. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.), Paul Broun (R-Ga.), Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) and Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) formally asked the House sergeant at arms and the Justice Department to investigate the advocacy group. The effort began with a press conference on Wednesday, and has since spread to cable news networks and blogs. The liberal Web site TalkingPointsMemo has followed the story closely. ...

Obama, George H.W. Bush to Make Joint Visit to Texas A&M

Obama, George H.W. Bush to Make Joint Visit to Texas A&M

President Obama and former president George H.W. Bush will hold a forum Friday at Texas A&M University to promote public service. It will be Obama's first visit to Texas since May 2008, and the Dallas Morning News predicts he will face "a unique mixture of warm, fuzzy bipartisanship and bitter protest." The event will mark the 20th anniversary of Bush's 1989 speech that praised community organizations as "a thousand points of light." Conservative groups from across Texas, including some associated with the Tea Party movement, plan to converge on the campus to oppose Obama's presence. "People ...

Video: Glenn Beck Cries Remembering 'Simpler Time' in America

Glenn Beck decided to illustrate a "simpler time" in America by showing classic ads for the likes of Coca-Cola and Kodak. Not unpredictably, it ended it tears and strange analogies. The Huffington Post summarizes:"These examples of Americana were so moving to Beck that he just couldn't help himself; he begin to tear up (not for the first time). His monologue, which was interrupted a few times by his tears, began with the wisdom that politicians can't take us back to that simpler time; they can only take us farther away. It then devolved into a strange and extended analogy of America as a ...

Video Shame: Miss California's Anti-Gay Marriage Ad, Boob Job Hit YouTube

Video Shame: Miss California's Anti-Gay Marriage Ad, Boob Job Hit YouTube

People at both ends of this argument make me want to barf, and all parties involved are harming the cause of gay rights. Miss California's attack on thousands of marriages is now available for all to see, and instead of stupid gay thunderstorm imagery, it makes handy use of Carrie Prejean's victimization:The ad cleverly accuses advocates of gay marriage of distraction, while using distraction. Lost to the viewer is the fact that neither Perez Hilton nor the Miss California organization really has any skin in this game, as far as activism goes. So, what does Countdown with Keith Olbermann do to ...
