Tom Kavanagh began working in journalism the year Jimmy Carter became president and, by God, they're both still around. He's been a reporter, critic, assignment editor and copy editor at several newspapers and magazines, spending the last 17 years at the Washington Post. He and his wife live in Towson, Md., and have three children.
